Description

Melotte 15 is an open star cluster located in the center of the Heart Nebula by the constellation Cassiopeia and about 7,500 light years away. Some of these stars are  50 times more massive than our sun. The stellar winds of these stars propel hydrogen into space giving the Heart Nebula its shape. The  colors  seen in the image represent different elements and gasses. Reddish color represents sulfur, greenish color represents hydrogen (the most abundant gas in the Universe) and the bluish color represents oxygen. This star cluster is only 1.5 million years old which is a “baby”  in a Universe that is about 14 billion years old. Looking at this cluster we have a glimpse  of how wonderful the Universe is.
